We have a great copy of Millie the Model #135 from 1966.  It has Millie dancing with the Beatles on the front cover.  Height of Beatle-Mania even in comics!!!

If you are not familiar with Millie, she was a comic aimed at young women as Marvel tried to capture some of the female market.  She evolves as gender roles evolved in the 1950s and 1960s so it is a very interesting read from a historical perspective as the earlier issues differ greatly from the issues in the 1960s.  And this issue is significant because it features the Beatles.

Who is Sgt Fury and what is the Origin of Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos

In the Marvel Comics universe, Sgt. Nick Fury first appeared in “Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos” #1, published in May 1963. The series was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. It introduced readers to Fury and his team of highly skilled soldiers known as the Howling Commandos.

The origin of the Howling Commandos begins with Fury himself. Prior to World War II, Fury was a rough and rebellious youth, often getting into trouble. However, his fighting skills and natural leadership qualities caught the attention of military officials, who saw his potential as a soldier.  Fury was enlisted in the U.S. Army and underwent rigorous training, becoming an exceptional soldier. Recognizing his capabilities, he was chosen to lead a new unit composed of diverse soldiers with specialized skills. The unit was known as the Howling Commandos, and their primary objective was to undertake dangerous missions behind enemy lines during World War II.

The members of the Howling Commandos were a diverse group, each with their own unique skills and backgrounds. Some notable members included Dum Dum Dugan, a skilled marksman and Fury’s second-in-command; Dino Manelli, an expert in impersonation and disguise; Gabriel Jones, a talented trumpet player and combatant; Izzy Cohen, a tough street fighter; and Junior Juniper, a skilled mechanic and pilot.

The comic book series played a significant role in establishing Nick Fury as a beloved character in the Marvel Universe, eventually leading to his involvement in other Marvel stories, including his role as the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division).
